Guidelines for Qualifying Examinations and Dissertations Written in English
The preparation of qualifying examinations and dissertations in English has become increasingly common in the Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering (PPGMEC), particularly in the context of the Program's internationalization efforts.
To avoid issues during the submission and defense process, students who choose to prepare their qualifying examination and/or dissertation entirely in English should follow the institutional guidelines below.
1. Cover Page
Even if the document is written entirely in English, the cover page must not contain only the English title.
Important: The cover page must include:
-
the title in Portuguese; and
-
the title in English.
2. TECA Submission
When submitting the dissertation through TECA (Theses, Dissertations, and Final Projects), the information must be provided in both languages.
The following information is required in TECA:
-
the title in Portuguese;
-
the title in English;
-
the Resumo (abstract in Portuguese); and
-
the Abstract (in English).
These items are required for the proper registration and indexing of the dissertation.
3. Cataloging Record — Attention to Campus Selection
When requesting the cataloging record from the Library, it is important to select the correct campus of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Computing (EMC).
Select: EMC – Campus 2 (Samambaia).
Avoid selecting “Campus 1”, which may appear as an option during the form submission.
Checklist
Before completing the process, make sure that:
-
The cover page includes the title in Portuguese and English.
-
The title has been registered in TECA in both Portuguese and English.
-
The Resumo and Abstract have been entered in TECA.
-
The cataloging record was requested with EMC – Campus 2 (Samambaia) selected.
