CAPES Publishes Guidelines on Good Practices for the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Institutional Settings

The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) has published guidelines promoting the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in institutional environments. The document provides recommendations for the ethical, secure, and appropriate use of AI technologies in the daily activities of public institutions.

The main recommendations include:

  • Using AI as a support tool rather than a substitute for human judgment.

  • Reviewing and validating all AI-generated content before using it in academic or administrative activities.

  • Avoiding the submission of personal, sensitive, or confidential institutional information to AI systems.

  • Refraining from using AI to make administrative or strategic decisions without appropriate human oversight.

  • Following information security and data protection principles when interacting with AI tools.

The initiative aims to foster a culture of responsible AI use, ensuring the integrity of institutional information and promoting compliance with best practices in the public sector.

CAPES also provides supporting resources, including a Practical Prompt Guide, a Generative AI Guide for Public Administration, and infographics on AI best practices and potential risks.

Faculty members, researchers, students, and staff of the Graduate Program are encouraged to review these guidelines before using AI tools in institutional, academic, or research-related activities.
